Taking the babies out

<div xmlns:cc="http://creativecommons.org/ns#" about="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jessicafm/247007542/"><a rel="cc:attributionURL" href=While I was pregnant, before I discovered I was having twins, I daydreamed about the cute little excursions baby and I would take. I imagined bundling him up and zipping around town on my errands.

Of course, in my daydreams I didnt have to pack enough supplies to last through all the feeding, changes and other emergencies that two little babies can generate.

In my daydream I didnt have to wrestle with an enormous twin stroller-which we received as a gift and was much appreciated but it was the Mack truck of strollers.

I cant tell you how envious I was of all the moms with the sleek single strollers that folded with the touch of button as I fought with this unwieldy monster of a stroller in the store parking lot.

Still this didnt prevent me from taking the babies out. I just learned how to pack light-I took essentials only and I was prepared to cut any trip short if I ran out of supplies or patience.

I tried to schedule my trips when the babies were on the verge of napping (or when I thought they should be napping).

When the girls were very small babies, a simple thing like running to the grocery store for bread and milk required two carts. That is because for those first months the girls went everywhere in their little baby car seats, or containers as my mom called them.

I would hook each girl in her container on to the cart and proceed around the store feeling a lot like a wagon train. I know I had it easy compared to moms of higher multiples, but still it was quite a production.

What essentials do you pack for your trips? Is there a particular stroller, toy or other baby travel gadget that has been a life saver?
